Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik is presently serving as Professor, Dean, College of Biotechnology, GADVASU Ludhiana, Punjab, Former- ICAR National Fellow, IVRI Izatnagar Bareilly, Chairman of Picobirnavirus Family Group, World Health Organization. Dr. Malik has rich experience in veterinary and animal sciences with the specialization in Microbiology and Biotechnology. His major research achievements include contributions in viral disease epidemiology, virus-host interactions, microbial biodiversity, characterization, and diagnosis. Currently, he is working on the development of new generation immunodiagnostics using synthetic and recombinant DNA technology. After obtaining bachelors, masters and Ph.D. did his postdoctoral research in Molecular Virology at University of Minnesota, Saint Paul, USA. He was visiting scientist at Division of Virology, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In his illustrious career, Dr. Malik served as Scientist (June 2001- August 2008), Senior Scientist (September 2008-May 2008), Principal Scientist (May 2008-November 2014) and presently occupying the respected position of ICAR National Fellow (25th November 2014). Dr. Malik has visited The United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Canada, Malaysia, and Singapore. Dr. Malik is recipient of several prestigious awards/honours including ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award (2001); Young Scientist Awards of Association of Microbiologists of India (2000), Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology (2010), Mid-career scientist award of Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (2015), Prof. PK Uppal Promising Young Scientist Award of Indian Association of Veterinary Microbiologists, Immunologists and Specialists in Infectious Diseases (2013) and Eminent Scientist Award (2017). He is bestowed with distinguished Associateship of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2010), Membership-National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (2010).
He has authored 3 books and contributed 21 book chapters. He has published 178 scientific research articles in peer-reviewed National/International journals. Dr. Malik has supervised 3 PhD and 17 M.V.Sc. students. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Immunology and Immunopathology and as guest editor edited Springers VirusDisease journal special issue on “Enteric Viral Infections in Humans and Animals”. He is regional editor of several international journals. In recognition of the achievements Dr. Malik has been endowed with Fellow International Science Congress Association (FISCA-2015), Fellow Academy of Environment and Life Sciences (FAELS-2015), Fellow Society of Applied Biotechnology (FSAB-2015) and Fellow Indian Virology Society (FIVS-2014). Dr. Malik has special interest in enteric viral infections of animals and humans, zoonosis, and emerging viral diseases.
